A Wooden Urn for ashes That Touches the Heart
When a loved one passes away, everything changes. The world slows down, emotions become raw, and words often fall short. In that silence, we search for something tangible. Something that remains. Something that offers comfort without being loud, something that reflects who someone was and what you feel. A wooden urn – warm, natural, handmade – can become such a meaningful place.
At Memories to Keep®, we create beautiful wooden urns that are more than just shapes – they are an experience. Not a cold, impersonal object sitting on a shelf, but a soft memorial you can touch. You can place your hand on it, sit with it, reflect. These are special urns, quietly present – just like the love that remains.
What Sets a Wooden Urn from Memories to Keep® Apart?
Our handcrafted wooden urns are unlike the standard urns people are used to. They are works of art and don’t look like urns at all. With their unique shapes, sustainable materials, and touchable textures, they create new rituals for keeping ashes and memories alive.
Originality
We don’t make standard urns – and that’s intentional. Because farewells are personal. Memories are unique. And the object that holds those memories deserves a unique form.
Our wooden urns are original in design. Some look nothing like what you would expect from an urn. And that’s exactly why they feel so natural in the home. They have an organic beauty. Soft lines, flowing shapes, sometimes surprisingly small or easily held – always designed with attention to detail, and always with the person behind the loss in mind.
Our originality is about creating space for new rituals. Our urns invite touch, holding, closeness. They fit in the hand, close to the heart. Or they rest gently in a space, silent witnesses to love that continues.
Craftsmanship
Each urn that leaves our workshop is handmade. No two are alike. Because we believe you can feel the difference between something mass-produced and something created with attention.
Designer and maker Harm Rietveld selects each piece of wood by hand. He feels it, inspects it, turns it in his hands. Not every piece becomes an urn – only those with something special: a grain, a tension, a quiet beauty.

The making is a process of dedication and craftsmanship. Sawing, sanding, starting over. Until the wood is perfectly smooth and finished. It takes patience and quiet – just like grieving. That’s the power of craft: it is love in action. You see it in the form, you feel it in the finish. A handmade wooden urn from Memories to Keep® carries the marks of care and high quality.
Meaningful
Geplaatst in jouw dagelijks leven. Als dragers van een verhaal dat doorgaat. Een tastbaar aandenken in de vorm van een prachtige urn.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why Choose a Wooden Urn?
Wood is alive. It breathes, warms in your hands, and tells stories in its lines, grain, and imperfections. That makes a wooden urn not just a container, but something that evokes emotion. A wooden urn is never cold – it invites touch. That’s exactly what makes wood ideal for remembrance.
Our choice for wood is intentional. We work with leftover pieces from carefully selected types like walnut, elm, oak, beech, mahogany, ash, and maple. Pieces with character. Wood not meant to be hidden, but shown. Each piece holds history, movement, growth – just like the life being remembered.
A wooden urn fits naturally into daily life. It doesn’t demand attention. It’s allowed to be there – on a shelf, in the living room, beside a candle in the bedroom. Wherever you want your memories to be. Its natural appearance helps it blend into your home while securing a deep place in your heart.

Our most popular model is the LittleWood©— a small wooden urn that fits in the palm of your hand, inviting touch and closeness. When you hold it, it gently takes on the warmth of your body. In this way, the mini urn allows you to hold your memories both literally and figuratively. It offers something special for those who are grieving: a way to feel your loved one close after the loss.

It is possible to personalise the urn by having a name or date engraved. The engraving is carefully done by us and placed on a metal plate that, once the urn is closed, is attached to the closure on the underside of the urn.

Can I Fill the Wooden Urn Myself?
Filling a wooden urn is an intimate moment. It calls for calm, care, and sometimes a little courage. You may do it yourself, or with someone close. Many find it a beautiful moment of farewell. Others prefer a funeral director or crematorium to assist. Whatever you choose – follow your heart.
All the wooden urns from Memories to Keep® can all be easily opened and closed by yourself using the key provided. When the urn is delivered, a small instruction booklet is included, guiding you through the different steps with text and images. You can view these instructions here.
Remembering in Wood – Tangible, Forever
At the heart of everything we make is love. Love that remains. Love expressed through wood, form, and softness.
Our wooden urns are an expression of that love. They are quiet. They are pure. They are yours.
So memories don’t fade,
But remain.
Tangible.
Felt.
Alive.
